OurStory Scotland has designed this observation task for anyone who is LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender), undefined, and/or who does not really fit conventional roles of gender/sexuality.

We invite you to observe life in a café or other public place where you feel comfortable and where you might typically go. Wherever you choose, don’t forget to make it clear on your submission what kind of place you have chosen to observe.

This should be an enjoyable exercise, so do take the time to soak up the atmosphere and environment of the location. These are some of the questions you might want to think about when writing:
- Where am I?
- What is the atmosphere like?
- What can I see, hear and smell?
- How do the people around me behave?
- Why have I chosen this place or activity?
- Why does it interest me?
- How do I feel being here?
- When does my obversation start and how long does it last?
- What are the main events that happen during that time?

OurStory Scotland requires that you do not submit any content that is defamatory, offensive or unlawful, and that you avoid any possibility of identifying people in terms of their sexuality unless you have their written permission. By submitting your observation, you signify your agreement to our terms and conditions (on the OurStory Scotland website), your agreement to the publication and archiving of the observation (including online publication), and your agreement to OurStory Scotland deciding whether or not to publish/archive some or all of this submission.
